family day in rome
The Vatican will celebrate family to highlight its role a fundamental institution in Christian life. To celebrate this, the Vatican will keep a unique pilgrimage to St. Peter’s tomb.
The event, which will take place on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday 27th, is sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family. It’s included in the list of celebrations for the Year of Faith. Specifically, the Council wants to emphasize the the key role the family plays in transmitting the faith to younger generations.
This is an excellent way to end the Year of Faith. This pilgrimage underlines how the family is the first and fundamental means of transmitting faith in the new millennium.

Welcome Papa Francesco !

Pope FrancisOn March 13th, white smoke rising from the conclave at the Vatican signalled a decision had been reached on the new head of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics.
The new Pope has been elected: Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He is took name Francis and is the first non-European Pope elected and he will be the 266th person to hold that office.
His appearance came after French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the protodeacon, announces “Habemus Papum” – “We have a pope” – and gave the name of the new pontiff in Latin.
The election of this first South American pontiff is surely something of a surprise.
A simple person, spontaneous and available these are the first impressions of many faithful Catholics.
The name Francis symbolizes poverty, humility, simplicity and rebuilding the Catholic Church.
In just few days, Francis’ straightforward, spontaneous style has become immediate hallmark of his papacy.
Pope Francis’ installation is set for Tuesday, March 19th — on the day of the Feast of St. Joseph. As many as 200 foreign delegations are expected to attend the historical event

Spending Christmas in Rome, a unique experience to live once in your life !

Christmas in Rome Navona SquareDuring Christmas there is a special feel in the air in the city of Rome: the buildings and the monuments seem to come to life with lights everywhere, the streets change and become fun and full of happiness. Everywhere you can see lights and decorations.

In Piazza Navona there is one of the most famous Christmas markets.

In fact, the whole square is transformed into Christmas central, with games and toys for children, appearances by Santa and the famous “Befana” . There are also stalls crammed with toys, crafts and a host of seasonal goods. But the historic speciality in piazza Navona is hand-crafted figures used to compose nativity scenes.

Vatican Christmas TreeMeanwhile, the Vatican is turned into a magical Christmas haven. Since 1982, a Christmas tree of about 30 meters or more is put in the centre of St. Peter’s Square. Beside the tree, a nativity scene is placed, drawing pilgrims from all over to have a look.
The pope himself gives midnight mass on Christmas Eve. If you are lucky enough to get tickets for this mass, it is a really special event.

Spending Christmas in Rome also means walking through the streets of the festively decorated centre: the historic alleys and shopping streets are illuminated by Christmas lights and the big squares in the center are filled with tourists and Romans who stroll or relax in search of gifts. Via del Corso, Via del Tritone, Piazza di Spagna, and Via Nazionale, are just some of the places where you can find shops and enjoy yourself.
